National Puppy Day Special – How to Take Care of Your Pooch

whoever Said You Can’t Buy Happiness forgot little Puppies – Gene Hill
Well said, must say! Pups are those cute little stress busters that are a source of joy and a playful companion to us and our kids. Their mere sight is enough to uplift our mood.  The fidgeting, tail-wagging, jumping and chewing that goes around in our house, makes us fall for them just as we would fall for our own kid. Though we love seeing our pups this way, we need to keep a watch over their behavior. Puppies are naive and completely dependent on us. We need to take care of them whether it is about the food they take or the way they behave. An insight into the behavioural patterns pups usually exhibit will help you take better care of them and understand their needs.

Behavioural Patterns in pups to watch out for

  • Destructive play
  • Climbing on the counters/ furniture
  • Mouthing that turns to biting
  • Jumping on people
  • Reluctance to activity
  • Weight loss

Most of the pet parents consider these behavioral patterns as natural. However, these symptoms may be an indication of some serious inadequacies in your pooch.

Pups develop these tendencies when they are either not trained well by their parents or not fed well-balanced meals. If you see your pup biting furniture or household items, it may be because of its poor nutrition. However, the presence of mice in surroundings or food spilt over the carpet or furniture may also lead to this kind of behavior. Talking about climbing on the counter, it reveals that your pooch doesn’t have a comfortable sleeping area or there is something he wants to grab hold of. Pooches love to explore and get entertained. They can easily get bored with the mundane routine which is why they jump in excitement on seeing people and sometimes bite as well. Although jumping is acceptable but biting isn’t, for obvious reasons. On contrary, if the pup shows reluctance to activities or has lost some weight – guys you need to check for fleas & ticks or heartworms in your pup.

Being a pet parent myself, I must suggest you Few Tips:

  •  To enforce basic behavioral commands by training him when to come, sit, stay or leave. 9 to 12 months is the best age to train them.
  •   Feed your pup with protein and calcium-rich dog food, specially formulated for their age group.
  •   Pay regular visits to the vet for a check-up so as to prevent any health problems.
  •   Take your pup for a walk. This gives him chance to explore and also removes boredom in your puppies.
  • Grooming your pet regularly will ensure your pup’s hygiene and also aid in keeping the surroundings clean.
  •   Buy them new toys.

Hope it was resourceful for the people who have just adopted a new pup or already have one. Puppies are gullible and must stay so.

Celebrate this National Puppy Day by taking care of them in the right way and your pet will always remain your stress-busting bundle of joy.
