It also prevents heartworm disease caused by (Dirofilaria immitis) and the control and treatment of ear mite (Otodectes cynotis) infestations. Revolution is also indicated for the treatment and control of intestinal hookworm (Ancylostoma tubaeforme) and roundworm (Toxocara cati) infections in cats.
How Revolution Work?
Revolution for pets contains a powerful active ingredient called Selamectin. And here is how it works effectively on parasites.
Revolution is an effective topical treatment formulated with Selamection that possesses a unique chemical structure that functions to prevent heartworm throughout the pet’s body when absorbed into the pet’s bloodstream. The powerful treatment can also kill hookworms and roundworms. Selamectin also works to kill fleas, ticks, ear mites, sarcoptic mange (only in dogs and not in cats) when they ingest the chemical while attempting to feed on the pet.
Selamectin works by attacking the central nervous system of parasites by mimicking an essential amino acid that is important for the control of the chloride ion channels. When used in the place of the amino acid, glutamate, selamectin allows the chloride ions to flow freely into the nerve cells. This results in neuromuscular paralysis in the parasites and eventually leads to their death.
When a revolution is applied to the skin, the chemical seeps inside the bloodstream where it kills the circulating juvenile heartworms. As the chemical reaches the intestines through the circulatory system, it acts on the internal parasites by disrupting their nervous system which kills the parasites.
The product then redistributes itself onto the skin and builds a layer of protection against external parasites. As and when fleas, ticks or ear mites try to feed on the pet, they ingest the chemical. Selamectin acts the same way on ectoparasites as well thereby killing them ultimately and freeing the pet of infestations within a couple of hours.
